Loving RasulAllah

SallAllahu alayhi wa sallam

Our goal is to love our Messenger more than our our parents, children, community, even our own selves. How can we love a man we do not know? Learning to love and follow the Messenger form the basis for the instruction in this course. In this way, the knowledge students gain strengthens their hearts and souls.
Loving RasulAllah

About this Course

This course will cover, in an exhaustive fashion, the events that occured to the Prophet Muhammad and his Companions starting from his birth and ending at the Hijrah to Madinah.

To set the stage we will discuss the history of Arabia at large including the previous prophets that shaped the history of the region, the introduction of idolatry, and the socio-economic and political climate of the time.

We will proceed with the Prophet’s lineage, birth, childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, continuing to the beginning of his prophethood.

We will then discuss the process of delivering the message of Islam, it’s earliest adherents and opponents, and the decade-long struggle that ensued in Makkah due to the conflicting forces of truth and falsehood.

Syllabus:

  • Lesson 1: History of Makkah and the Arabian Peninsula

  • Lesson 2: The Prophet before Prophethood

  • Lesson 3: The Early Days of Islam: Spreading the Message in Stages

  • Lesson 4: Islam Grows, Tensions Rise

  • Lesson 5: Running Out of Options: The Muslims Community Looks Outward

    Instructor

    Tom Facchine

Tom Facchine (pronounced fa-KEEN-ee) converted to Islam in 2010 as he was finishing his BA in Political Science. For the next few years he studied Islam and Arabic with local teachers while working with Muslim youth, founding and directing youth groups in two different communities. In 2015 he was accepted into the University of Madinah and is now close to completing a bachelor’s degree in Islamic Law. In addition to youth group activities, for the past two years Tom has directed an after school program for young Muslims called the Ramadan Academy, which operates out of the GCLEA mosque in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Tom’s academic and personal background brings a unique dual ability to relate to mainstream Western cultural norms and engage them from a traditional Islamic perspective. His unique teaching style is highly interactive and brings high-level concepts to a level that even children can understand. He is passionate about building relationships with Muslim youth and giving them the tools and confidence to live as observant, well-adjusted people of faith in our times. Tom currently lives in Madinah, Saudi Arabia with his wife and two children. In the summers he visits the United States for teaching and da’wah.

My Approach to Teaching

Going Beyond the Facts

I teach this course in a conversational/discussion style that highlights the people who bring this history to life.

We want this knowledge to be relevant for students today. We want them to be able to grow as Muslims as a result of this knowledge.

Therefore, we give special attention to the moral dilemmas encountered by the early Muslims. We then extract real life lessons from the events taught.

Students learn to love and appreciate Allah's Messenger and his companions, but they also leave with some practical ideas for how to approach the difficulties and problems in their own lives.

When students leave this course, they will get to know their blessed Prophet and truly learn to love him.
